The Shield of Arrav quest for RuneScape is not really hard. However, you'll need the following: A friend that has not completed the Shield of Arrav quest yet to help you due to the nature of this quest. Whoever decides to join the Phoenix Gang should be able to fight a level 23 enemy. And last but not least, you need 20GP. Once you've found the right friend to help you out, you should both proceed to speaking with Reldo,

who can be found in the Varrock Castle Library. Both of you must ask him about the quest, and he will then tell you about a book located in the nearby shelves. This book is located where there's a small blue and white shield. Once you've both obtained the book you must each read it. Once you're both done reading it, talk to Reldo again. He will then tell you to talk to Baraek, the fur merchant, who can be found outside of the castle. Now you and your friend must decide who's joining the Phoenix Gang and who's joining the Black Arm Gang.

Whoever decides to join the Phoenix Gang must follow this procedure: Go talk to Baraek, he will then ask for 20GP in order to reveal the location of the gang. So give him the gold, and then head along the south wall by walking east to a building that has the exclamation symbol. Then climb down the ladder to speak to a guy called Straven. Let him know who you are, and offer him your services. He will then request that you bring him the Intelligence Report from Johnny The Beard whom resides at the Blue Moon Inn. Once you defeat Johnny The Beard, you'll receive the report that Straven wanted. Now go give the report to Straven

who in return will give you a key. The key will be used to access the Phoenix hideout as well as the weapon storage area. Upon entering the hideout go southwest until you find a chest, now open the chest and you should now have found left-half of the Shield of Arrav. You're not quite done yet though. Once you get the shield half, climb the ladder and go to a building which is to the east of the hideout. Open that door and by climbing the ladder you should have now entered the weapon storage area. There is a weapon master inside who is level 23. For those planning to use magic attacks, keep in mind that they won't work there. Once you defeat him, you should now be able to get the two Phoenix Crossbows that are on the floor. Give them to the person who will be joining the Black Arm Gang as they will need them. You are now about half way done with the Shield Of Arrav quest.

Now here's the procedure to join the Black Arm Gang: Once you've spoken to Reldo go speak to Charlie

the Tramp. Ask him about the alley behind him, and he will tell you about the Black Arm Gang. Then ask him if they would let you join. Go inside the building to talk to Katrine. She will ask that you bring her two Phoenix Crossbows. Use the two that you obtain from your friend from the Phoenix Gang. Now give Katrine the crossbows, and then she will make you part of the Black Arm Gang. Now go upstairs and look for a cupboard. Search inside of it and you'll find the right-half of the Shield of Arrav. You're still not quite done with the Shield of Arrav quest. There's a little more to do.

Once both players have their half of the Shield of Arrav, head over to the museum which is north of Varrock's east bank. Speak to the curator. You will receive two certificates per half of Shield of Arrav. Both players should keep one of the certificates and exchange the other for the certificate of the other half. So now both players should have a left-half shield certificate as well as a right-half shield certificate. To get the full certificate use one half with the other. Now go speak with King Roald in Varrock Castle to get your reward. Each player will receive 1 quest point as well as 600 coins.
